to have their families in Hong Kong, will be limited

to the cost of four full fares.

(5) If the officer is permitted to proceed on leave or

pension before completing five years resident service

he will be required to contribute towards the cost

of the passages appropriate to his case a sum bearing to such cost the same proportion as the period by which his resident service falls short of five years

bears to five years. A similar reduction will be made

in the grant for railway fares. Provided that in exceptional circumstances and with the special permiss-

ion of the Governor such contribution or reduction

may be waived in whole or in part.

(6) In the case of an officer's death his family will be

given single passages to Calcutta and railway fares

to destination in India, the number of full fares not

to exceed three.

C. NORTHERN CHINESE POLICE OFFICERS.

Passages are provided by Government in accordance with the following rules to members of the Chinese (Northern) Contingent of the Police Force, who are domiciled in Shantung,

Chine: -

(1)

After a period of three years' resident service Northern Chinese will if proceeding on leave be granted retum passages or if retiring on pension single passages to Wei Hai Wei provided that in the

latter case the officer sails within six months from

the date of ceasing to perform the duties of his office. (2) Officers with salaries of $396 per annum and over will

receive second class passages and officers with

salaries under $396 per annum will receive deck

passages in steamers to be selected by the Government.
